Success Story: ROSE Magazine — Growing a Voice for Modern Womanhood

For Ruby Cole‑Ellis, building ROSE Magazine was about more than launching a business — it was about creating a meaningful platform for connection, storytelling, and personal growth.

ROSE Magazine is a digital community designed for millennial women, exploring modern womanhood through thoughtful editorial content, social media, and collaborative storytelling. Operating primarily online, the platform brings together contributors and readers in a space that is both creative and empowering.

Like many entrepreneurs, Ruby had a strong vision — but she also recognized the value of stepping back, refining her strategy, and gaining outside perspective. Through the Rural Alberta Entrepreneurs with Disabilities Program (EDP), she was able to do exactly that.

Finding Clarity and Confidence

Through her work with EDP Coach Chelsea Vogel, Ruby and her team focused on strengthening the foundation of their business while exploring new opportunities for growth.

“The coaching provided both strategic clarity and a strong confidence boost. It validated that we are on the right track while also offering a fresh, objective perspective on areas we hadn’t fully explored. It helped me step more fully into my role as a founder and lead the business with greater clarity and intention.” — Ruby Cole‑Ellis

A key milestone in the process was conducting a full audit of ROSE Magazine’s operations. This deep dive helped the team identify gaps, uncover new opportunities, and build a more aligned path forward.

From refining their strategy to exploring monetization and revenue streams, the experience helped move the business out of “beta mode” and into a more confident, fully launched stage.

A Collaborative Approach to Growth

Ruby’s experience also highlights the collaborative nature of the EDP program — bringing together the client, coach, and Community Futures team to support success from multiple angles.

Coach Chelsea Vogel was impressed by the team’s openness and drive:

“I met with Ruby and her team, and each member was extremely motivated to discuss their roles in the business candidly. They were very receptive to enhancing their knowledge in each role, and discussing suggestions and comments aimed at taking their business to the next level. Ruby and her team were truly great to work with.”

EDP Coordinator Nancy Bownes from Community Futures Central Alberta also played an important role in supporting Ruby’s journey:

“Ruby is no stranger to our CF office, and I was very excited that we could help her again in another capacity with the EDP Program. I am so glad she had a great, helpful experience!”

Building Momentum for the Future

Through the Entrepreneurs with Disabilities Program, Ruby gained not only practical tools and strategic insights, but also the confidence to lead ROSE Magazine into its next phase of growth.

With a stronger foundation, clearer direction, and an aligned team, ROSE Magazine is well‑positioned to continue expanding its impact as a platform for connection and storytelling.
