Success Story: Wiggle Butts Day Home – Building a Business with Heart and Support

At Community Futures Alberta, our Entrepreneurs with Disabilities Program (EDP) is designed to help rural entrepreneurs overcome barriers and build businesses that fit their lives. Today, we’re proud to share the inspiring journey of Bonnie Kroeker, owner of Wiggle Butts Day Home—a safe haven for dogs that’s rooted in trust, compassion, and community.

 Finding the Right Support

Bonnie discovered the EDP program through Community Futures at a time when everything seemed to align perfectly. For Bonnie, the program was more than just business support—it was a lifeline that recognized the realities of invisible disabilities and rural living.

“It’s rare to find support that combines genuine compassion with tangible expertise, and I’ve often said this is the first time my medical condition has ever gifted me something so empowering—and with cost savings, too!”
— Bonnie Kroeker

Coaching That Makes a Difference

Working with EDP Coach Brenda Kolasa of Visual Resolve and Community Futures Central Alberta EDP Coordinator Nancy Bownes, Bonnie received personalized guidance that transformed her approach to marketing and business planning. Together, they tackled:

  • Learning new tech tools
  • Devising business systems
  • Creating content strategies and visuals
  • Building consistent themes for social media
  • Planning website updates and marketing systems

“While coaching isn’t therapy, it’s had transformative moments. My coach had an incredible ability to help reframe mental and emotional blocks I’d been struggling with and bring clarity to what I’d been trying to express all along.” — Bonnie Kroeker

Defining the Heart of Wiggle Butts Day Home

Through this process, Bonnie crafted a mission and vision that truly reflect her values:

“We envision Wiggle Butts Day Home as the leading safe haven for dogs—known for unmatched care, compassion, and exceptional boarding within our region. Rooted in trust, transparency, and peace of mind, we strive to create a safe, mindful, and inclusive community where dogs and their humans thrive together. Beyond boarding, we aspire to build collaborative relationships that nurture both pets and people, especially when they need us most.”

Finally having her mission expressed in words that feel authentic has been incredibly powerful for Bonnie—and for her growing business.

It Takes a Team

EDP is a team effort between Client, Coach, and Coordinator. For Nancy, Community Futures Central Alberta EDP Coordinator, the experience was also hugely rewarding: “Bonnie is a pure example why we do what we do and love this program. I wish her every success and was blessed to help her with her entrepreneurial journey!”
